About This Project
The Raincatcher is a hand crafted observatory of natural stone, built without mortar, using ancient techniques of construction. The limestone observatory stands on four pillars which support a dome. The dome is pierced by a central oculus which lets in sunlight, moonlight, rain and snow, and creates a moving shadow in the space according to the passage of the sun through the sky. The raincatcher is installed in a private estate in New York.
