About This Project
The colorful dresses are lined up against one wall of the rectangular space, flooded with daylight from a bank of street facing windows on the other wall. Between these two elements stands a 48-foot serpentine handcarved sandstone screen. Between the folds of each undulation, like a display at a museum, stands a mannequin in a Naeem Khan dress. The rest of the room is treated as a jewel box, delicately layered with shades of cream and ivory. Ivory Venetian plaster finish on perimeter walls and a cream painted floor define the boundaries of the space. Unbleached muslin curtains, gathered like fans at the center are attached from the top and bottom with needle thin wires threaded through fish eye hooks to the fabric so that the curtains appear to levitate. A row of cream colored Ingo maurer limited edition “Jimken” lights serve as sensuous complement to the screen.
